Below we look at several ideas to incorporate your love of sports into your spring and summer projects around the house.
OUTSIDE
Install a Backyard Putting Green
For golfers, there is never enough time to work on the short game, and for most golfers, their putters spend more time out of their bag when it’s stored than in it. When you can have a putting green right in your backyard, why not? With putting green turf, you can design an artificial putting green to fit your space and your personal preferences. Instead of mowing, you’ll be shaving strokes off your score.
If you’re looking for a maintenance-free putting surface, artificial turf is definitely the way to go. Synthetic grass is also an option but is more expensive to install and requires a little upkeep. With either option, you’ll need to keep leaves and sticks off the area, but there is no need to worry about mowing, fertilizing or weeding. The artificial turf doesn’t give as much of an appearance of being on an actual golf course, but synthetic grass has come a long way and if you install a high-quality turf it will be tough for anyone to be able to tell the difference.
Hoops or Bocce, too
Other outside options include the obvious addition of a basketball hoop alongside the driveway, or if you’re more ambitious a full-scale court surface. Another favorite, although requiring some serious maintenance is the installation of a Bocce Ball lawn-court.

INSIDE
The Sports Cave
Probably the most popular indoor home improvement idea for the sports enthusiast is the “The Sports Cave.” If you’re lucky enough to have space and want to showcase your love of sports, a sports-themed recreation room is a way to go.
Build the entire room around the concept of watching sports or playing, with memorabilia or vintage sport-related items scattered throughout the room. Create a movie theater type feel for watching your favorite games, or incorporate the latest video games into the experience to give the feeling that you’re in the game.
Indoor Golf
Every golfer dreams about playing a round of golf at home, and having a home golf simulator is now becoming more and more common for many players to afford, thanks to advancements in technology and cost reductions.
Costs can range from $500 to $70,000 and there is no one single solution that fits everyone. There are endless combinations of materials you can use to build a home golf simulator, and there are numerous online guides that can help you navigate the wide array of options available to transform a room into a virtual golf course.
Of course, the simplest solution is to purchase an indoor putting green, with options that also come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and costs.
So as the home improvement season hits full gear in the coming months, be sure to keep a fun project on the list and to keep your favorite sport on the list.
