All dollar store products are not the same…sometimes you really can find an item of fair quality for much less than what you’d pay at other retail stores.
1. Silk plants
For example, take a look at this beautiful faux greenery that looks as if it could have come from a home decor store.
To add some flair and avoid the cheap “Dollar Store” look, put your fake greenery in nice planters that suit the look you’re trying to achieve.
2. Metal pots/planters
Thin metal containers can be found at nearly any dollar store in a wide variety of sizes, shapes, and even colors.
Use them as they are or modify them to suit your decor.
For example, if the container is shiny it can be made to look older. There are different methods for aging metal but many of them use products that can be dangerous. Look for tutorials to age metal that don’t use caustic, poisonous materials.
3. Votive candles
You’ll typically find a huge variety of votive candle holders at your local dollar store. Votive candles in holders made of glass or metal add a lovely, elegant touch to your dining room table, bedside table, or even the bathroom.
4. Wreaths
Wreaths made from styrofoam, vine, or other materials can be found either decorated or plain, without ornamentation. To decorate your home inexpensively, use dollar store greenery combined with other elements.
Here’s a beautiful, summery looking wreath that’s quick and easy to make…and even better, it’s a great activity for the kids!

5. Glassware
From cups to glasses, to larger special-use items such as candy dishes or even wine bottles, your local dollar store is a treasure trove of home decor ideas.

6. Baskets
From wicker to cloth, wood, plastic, and/or metal there are any number of baskets and bins. Use them for both storage and decor and make them your own, just as Busy Bliss blogger Amie did with this cheap, dollar store basket.
7. Wall decor
Many dollar store picture frames look cheap individually. But when you combine them together they can create a dramatic look for very little money.
Just like dollar store picture frames can look shabby all on their own, so too can dollar store mirrors.
But when you hang multiple mirrors in a grid pattern it can create a striking look, and can help open up any area you want to appear to be larger.
All it takes is a bit of imagination and you’ll discover a world of home decor possibilities for less than you would pay at many home decor stores.
