Replacing your curtains is an easy way to change the look of your home, but what do you do with the curtains you replace?
If they’re in good shape you could simply have them cleaned and then either sell them or donate them to a thrift store.
But have you ever thought of repurposing them instead?
Here are some great upcycling ideas to make good use of your old curtains.:
1. Faux Canopy Bed
Using small dowels and sheer fabric panels hung from the ceiling with thumb tacks this blogger created a “canopy bed” in a snap…for much less than the real thing.
How’s that for an easy DIY?
2. Apron
String a ribbon through old kitchen curtains, create a buttonhole for the ribbon to run through and bam – you’ve got an apron!
3. Market bag
If you know your way around a sewing machine, then why not make one or more market bags from old curtains?
3. Easy Indoor Kids’ Teepee
While the blogger for this teepee used a bedsheet, an old curtain would work just as well for this easy project.
Since the frame is constructed using dowels, it’s easily moved. Plus, you can adjust the size of the teepee by changing the length of the wood and other materials used.
4. Closet Doors
What do you do when you don’t have enough room for the closet doors that you removed?
Use curtains instead!
5. Slipcovers
Finally, bring your old, tired furniture a new lease on life with brightly colored slipcovers made from curtains!
Here’s an in depth tutorial plus tips on how to make slipcovers that will fit any piece of furniture.
Have you ever repurposed old curtains? What did you do?
