7 Easy Ways to Use Pantone’s Classic Blue in Your Home

Interestingly, this year’s color, “Classic Blue” is a different shade of the same color chosen twenty years ago (Cerulean) a/k/a “Sky Blue”.

In their announcement, Pantone states that this color “highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation from which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.”

This color choice is said to “inject creative confidence into interiors” and is “easily applied across so many different materials, textures and finishes.”

Most would agree that this year’s color choice is beautiful, but you might be wondering how to apply this color to your own home’s decor.

One of the great things about this year’s Color of the Year is the ease with which it can fit with the majority of color schemes found in many homes.

It’s easier than you might think to use Pantone’s Classic Blue. Here are some ideas to get you started.:

1. Use as an accent

If you’re unsure how to add Classic Blue to your decor try adding it in small doses with items such as throw pillows, wall art or vases.

This makes it easy to swap things out that you don’t like or which just don’t work. Combine it with gray, olive green, cognac, white or gold to really make the color pop.

To add bright splashes of energy combine it with yellow or bright orange for high contrast. Or, you can opt to add a gray or white to lend a subdued elegance to your room.

4. Experiment with lighting

Blue twinkle lights to add an unexpected flash of color. Blue lampshades in a bath or bedroom create a soothing, relaxing mood…perfect for unwinding after a long day.

5. Soft Textiles

As a calm, soothing color, the rich shade of classic blue is a perfect choice for the bedroom. Add a blue duvet cover with pillows, preferably in a velvet or chenille fabric with a plush blue rug beside your bed that’s a delight to step on each morning.

7. Incorporate into household products

If you already love the way your home looks, but you want to add classic blue to your existing decor think small and temporary.

For example, do you need some new cookware? Or perhaps some new ceramic dishes?
